about
This is about running away from bad situations to identically bad situations. I was living in Portland, depressed by the lack of sun and disconnection from my life in CA, specifically The Bay Area. It turns out that I left my shitty situation to go live with my best friend who was in a near identical one of his own. After realizing it was a failed attempt I returned to my hometown of San Diego where I faced yet another repeat of the same damn situation. All that topped off by departing with a woman I loved back to the Bay, annnnnd you guessed it, shit was similarly messed up. She was worth it though and still is. Point I'm making here is running from change only makes it that much worse because god damn it, it will find you no matter where you go.
lyrics
Change'll hunt you down and make you dig your own grave
if you try to maintain neutrality on a moving train...
His life was simple, unspectacular and plain
He'd loom at the window like an animal encaged
the stillness stood as a testament to the malaise
longing for something, anything to change
oh but the priestess was so sad and ashamed
how do yah make an omelet out of broken eggs?
his friends from back home out for his birthday
they came to bear witness to their charade
brung a jailbreak cake, with tools for his escape
not a moment to late, they hatches his get-a-way
put the pieces of the puzzle in their rightful place
you could tell he was leavin cause his bed was made
quit his job, left the girl, packed the dog
and bounced
drive was long, against the world, glad he's gone
for now
things he saw, thought and heard, made him strong
and loud
head the call, not the words, was he all
too fuckin proud?
Change'll hunt you down and make you dig your own grave
if you try to maintain neutrality on a moving train
it came on suddenly and they begged him to stay
If he could've he wouldn't but couldn't do it anyway x2
He breaks the border to the gateway and hesitates
synchronistic shuffle welcome ta californ i a
he laughs then composes himself, tries to act sane
takes his dog on a short walk and then like a cavalcade...
barreled down the highway like he was giving chase
or chasing a victim down to his white knuckled fate
before he ever arrives the party disseminates
there's an eerie calm but oh you just fuckin wait
turns out his partner lived no differently
mistook greed for power, anger for empathy
you are a reflection of the players on your team
wouldn't it be funny if we all dreamed the same dreams?
its how well you wear your scars that's interesting
it is painfully obvious that we all suffer equally
maybe not the same sort of inequality
and I know it's hard to believe but, you must trust me
Change'll hunt you down and make you dig your own grave
if you try to maintain neutrality on a moving train
it came on suddenly and they begged him to stay
If he could he wouldn't but couldn't do it anyway x2
his choices are to return to his wayward family
or trudge on for shit pay, diggin graves, endlessly
after little debate, again he plans to leave
got no coconspirators and got no enemies
down down to diego where the heat is obscene
at wits end, in constant pain, y'all know what it mean
cards on the table, got active in the scene
sellin snake oil to the local creeps
tried to burn it down when they caught onto the scheme
turns out fire needs something that was green
desert sun dries the surface with blistering heat
somehow responded to the snake oil positively…
his life became simple, unspectacular and plain
until he joined hands with that one woman
she made it alright for the world to end
or to take to the road and do it all over again
that fork in the road and those wounds that wont mend
you can run, you can hide, you waste your time hoping
or stare the devil in his eyes, lean in close and say
"this is my game, I decide how it is played..."
Change'll hunt you down and make you dig your own grave
if you try to maintain neutrality on a moving train
it came on suddenly and they begged him to stay
If he could've he wouldn't but couldn't do it anyway x2
