about

This is a loose cover of Crass' "Punk is Dead." It highlights my disappointment with rap/rappers and was first written 7ish years ago. It caught a rewrite, I reworked the hell out of the beat, and still perform it to this day. Crass, despite their eventual short comings, did a lot to pull me out of a rut when I lost interest in my social group/crew, and felt that rap and hip hop had nothing to offer me.

lyrics

tell me I'm not right
rap has fucking been dead
180 proof poison
10 percent medicine
candy wrapper shit they say the cancer is the cure
high school hierarchy disregards our ancestors
at best that shit is trite leftist trash
it aint for insurrection it's just for cash
rap became a fashion just like punk used to be
what was once my only friend became my coldest enemy
if movements are systems and all systems tend to kill
then movements are the mayhem of the unfulfilled
rap became a movement when we felt completely lost
leaders sold out and all those lines got crossed
when rap narcissism was our so called napalm
Nas and Jay patented the hydrogen bomb
preachin exploitation, money mongers, self enslaved
suckers of the system that got paid to dig our mass graves
tired of these liars tryin to keep me in my class
I have zero fuckin interest in joining a superstar cast
I pray they all one day burn in their piles of cash
or better still the entire scene just up and collapse
now everybody knows what the fuck is really wrong
stay petty and vacant so of course they have conformed
wise to their shit but plagued by idealogues
say they write with their hand but those are Rambo's arms
me who am I? do I just want to see it burn?
over the years there are a few things I have learned
need no fuckin business man to promote all my angles
stay steady duckin the carrots that fame and fortune dangle
I see the blanks loaded in their binding fear
the social elite kicking heartless raps in the mirror
I scrutinize, I bide my time
while it tears at the seams
the scorpions might attack
but the system dont feel nothing
